The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones says the recently conducted Data capturing exercise for private schools is part of plans to revamp education in the State.
Hon. Jones described the exercise as one that was largely successful, expressed satisfaction that it achieved about 80% success rate, however warned that schools that failed to show up for the exercise would be sanctioned.
The Commissioner made the disclosure while speaking with Newsmen on the essence of the just concluded Data capturing exercise, said the objectives for the exercise was for the State Government to have an accurate figures operating in the State.
Furthermore, he opined that the exercise is also to help determine number of pupils in each school, statuses of such Private schools operating in the State, whether they are healthy and have what is required to operate in the State inline with the Education Law.
Hon. Jones added that the Ministry equally embarked on the exercise to enable it determine the fitness of the Private schools operating in the State and whether they are conducive for learning for children, revealed that any school that fails to show up after the few days grace period announced by the Ministry, such schools may be closed down in line with the Kogi State Education Law 2020.
He disclosed that the Ministry has observered that private schools spring up every day in the state and without recourse to registering with the Ministry, explained that the Data capturing exercise would help ascertain the appropriateness of such schools, how much facilities they have, qualifications of the teachers teaching in such schools, how conducive there learning environment is and the number of students they’re having for better planning.
The Commissioner disclosed that the State Government in its efforts to reposition the Education Sector is currently working on a ten education year plan, listed the Education Sector Plan and the State Education Strategic Operational Plans as part of the global Plan the state is working on to revamp and reposition the Education system of the state.
He appealed to schools that are yet to appear for the Data capturing exercise to do the needful and in their own interest, as the Ministry of Education he said would apply the full weights of the relevant sections of the Education Law 2020, insisting that such schools may even be closed down.
On the recent call on him by a section of admirers to contest the forthcoming House of Representatives Election for Kabba Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency, Hon Jones thanked those making the call, however said he is more concerned with the mandate given to him by Gov. Yahaya Bello to revamp the Education system in the State.
According to the Commissioner, the mandate given to him by the Governor is so massive pointing out that any political exercise for now would be a distraction for him achieving his set goals of making the State Education Sector an envy as envisioned by Gov. Bello.
Hon. Jones says he wants to stay focused by taking the Education Sector to what Gov. Yahaya Bello wants, but says ” even if I cannot achieve a hundred percent as expected by the Governor, I should be able to achieve at least 80%”.
” Secondly, we’re praying that Gov. Bello will take up the mantle of Leadership as President of Nigeria in 2023″, described the aspirations of Gov. Bello becoming the President as a major achievement and assignment that should take his time and not going to the House of Representatives.
He added by saying, ” I contested the House of Representatives seat in 2019. I already have the experience no doubt. But what is paramount for me now is the mandate to managing and revamp the education system as given to me by Gov. Bello and making his Presidential Aspiration a success”.
The Commissioner thanked but appealed to the people asking him to aspire to the House of Representatives to join hands with him in taking the Education Sector of the State to the next level and to work for the realization of Gov. Bello becoming President in 2023.
He described Gov. Bello as a detribalized leader, with capacity, disclosed that with the achievements of the Governor in securing and in unifying Kogi State, makes him eminently fit for the Nation’s President in 2023.
Hon. Jones concluded by saying that security is the most precious thing the country needs now, revealed that since Gov. Bello has done well in Securing and in unifying the State, qualities Leaders that should lead the country need, urged for support for the governor to enable him replicate the feat in the country.
Hon. Jones described Gov. Bello as a man with an unquantifiable passion for Education, one who has made success managing a Kogi State that is a miniature Nigeria, maintained that if Gov. Bello is able to unify the state and making it the most secured state in the country, it means he has the capacity to unite the Ibo’s Hausa’s and Yoruba’s, the three dominant ethnic groups in the country.
The security and unity factors that the country largely clamours for now, Hon Jones explained is the major influence leading to the defeaning calls that has made Gov. Bello the most needed in the country for now.
