KGIRS Holds Stakeholders Interactive Session, Assures of Friendly, Enhanced Tax Policies
… Moved IGR to N23.5 Billion Within 8 Years.
The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service says through friendly and enhanced policies, it has been able to move the State Internal Revenue to N23.5billion within the last eight years from N6.5billion.
The Executive Chairman, KGIRS, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, made the disclosure at a stakeholders interactive session with the theme: “Continuous Engagement For Effective Tax Administration”, said the agency is presently in court prosecuting 31 illegal highway tax collectors.
The Chairman notes that the survival of the agency, is determinant on the stakeholders in the payment of their taxes, said the interaction is to enable the need for the agency to get feedback that would lead to enhance friendly policies and for prosperity.
The Chairman disclosed that the agency has in the last eight years of operation, moved from manual to digital mode of tax administration, said it has made collaboration simpler and convinient for individuals and organizations to make payments.
” Tax is as old as human beings. Tax is for the benefit of all sectors of the State. Through improved tax administration, it has enabled effective provision of security and better social services”.
” The various achievements the State has made in revenue generation, he said is a product of tax collection and blocking of illegal taxes”, pointing out that the agency is determined to ensure that an enabling environment is created for tax administration and collection in the State.
The Chairman further disclosed that the agency has been able to put in place measures, that has aided in block taxes in the past collected by non State actors, said the agency is working on blocking their activities permanently.
The Chairman listed the benefits of citizens paying their taxes, pointing out that the present administration of Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo is committed to providing the needed social services, assured of the agency’s readiness to listen to complaints arising from their mode of operations.
The highlights of interactive session offered the stakeholders in praising the efforts of the KGIRS, urged for working partnership that will make payments seamless.
