KABBA-BUNU, KOGI STATE — The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has unveiled a major intervention under the Nigeria Community Action Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, with thousands of vulnerable residents of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area set to benefit from a comprehensive package of social protection, livelihood support and agricultural assistance.
Jones made the disclosure at the empowerment programme organised by the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on State Capital Development, Hon. Nathaniel Ojo Taiwo, at Okebukun, where he outlined the broad-based nature of the intervention and its potential to strengthen household incomes and stimulate grassroots economic activity.
According to the Commissioner, beneficiaries will be drawn from across the 15 wards and 156 polling units of Kabba-Bunu LGA, ensuring that the intervention reaches communities across the local government rather than being concentrated in a few locations.
He disclosed that 28 communities under the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) framework would be captured in the intervention, with beneficiaries receiving support through four major components.
Under the Cash Transfer component, 202 beneficiaries will receive ₦20,000 monthly for 12 months, providing sustained financial relief to vulnerable households.
The Livelihood Grants component will support 606 beneficiaries with a one-off grant of ₦100,000 each, designed to enable recipients establish or strengthen small businesses and other income-generating ventures.
Similarly, 137 beneficiaries will participate in the Labour Intensive Programme, receiving ₦20,000 monthly for 12 months, while 297 beneficiaries across the 15 wards and 156 polling units will receive farm inputs and productive assets, including fertilisers, herbicides and other agricultural tools.
Jones explained that, cumulatively, not less than 2,830 people would benefit from the CSDA intervention, underscoring the government’s commitment to taking development directly to the grassroots.
He further noted that while some communities had benefited from previous interventions, priority would be given to communities that had yet to benefit, thereby promoting fairness, inclusion and wider geographical coverage.
The CSDA serves as a critical grassroots development mechanism, providing a bridge between government, development partners and rural communities to deliver targeted interventions that address poverty, strengthen livelihoods and improve living conditions.
The unveiling at Okebukun therefore represents more than another empowerment initiative; it signals a strategic effort to translate government social investment policies into tangible economic opportunities for ordinary citizens across Kabba-Bunu.
With thousands of prospective beneficiaries positioned to receive financial assistance, livelihood grants and agricultural support, the NG-CARES intervention is expected to provide a significant boost to household resilience, community enterprise and grassroots economic recovery in the local government.
