JUNE 12: A Call to Renewed our Democratic Process.
Today, as we commemorate June 12—a day forever etched in the soul of our nation as a symbol of our struggle for democracy and freedom.
I am filled with deep reflection and sorrow. The democracy our heroes fought for, the one we dreamt of during the era of MKO Abiola, now feels like a distant shadow. We once believed that change was within reach, only to have that hope cruelly snatched away.
On this solemn day, we must ask ourselves: Was it truly worth the fight? Have we made real progress? What more must we do?
June 12 reminds us of a time when Nigeria was united in purpose. Ethnicity and religion gave way to vision, character, and collective hope. We voted freely without fear or division. Can we still believe in that unity today? Can we still hope for a country where no citizen lives in fear of bias, intimidation, or political annihilation?
Our democracy must be inclusive, equitable, and just. It must serve all Nigerians, not just a privileged few. We must remember: Nigeria is our only home. We can not allow a handful of heartless individuals to rob us of our identity, dignity, and collective future.
Yet today, Nigerian youths face some of the worst challenges in our history—crippling insecurity, hunger, inadequate healthcare, and deepening economic despair. We were promised “renewed hope,” but what we’ve received is renewed hopelessness.
Mr. President, enough is enough. You can not remain silent while Nigerians suffer at the hands of non-state actors. Our farmers can no longer farm in peace. Those who try are running at a loss. Our people are starving, our women are suffering, and our youth are losing faith.
We demand urgent, real, and tangible solutions to these national crises. Let this June 12 be more than a ceremonial remembrance. Let it be a reset, a moment of truth, and a renewed pledge to build a Nigeria that values every citizen’s contribution, especially that of youth.
To all Nigerian youth, you are strong, you are resilient, and you are the heartbeat of this nation. Across the world, youth movements are rewriting history, and we can do the same here.
Let us stand united. Let us demand inclusion. Let us rise not just in voice but in power and presence.
I believe in a Nigeria where youth are not only heard but seen, respected, and empowered. Together, we can restore hope, secure peace, and build a nation that truly works for all.
