IYD: Youths Asked to make informed decision on food choices – Amb. Ogohi Samuel Usman


 

The importance of working towards more equitable food systems and for youths to make informed decisions on food choices has been stressed

The Kogi State Chairman of the National Youth Council, His Youthfulness Ambassador Ogohi Samuel Usman stressed the importance of growing increased and healthy food at a Press Conference to mark the 2021 International Youth Day in Lokoja.

Increased global education on the healthiest and most sustainable options for both individuals and the environment the NYCN Chairman stressed remains the way out of the current challenge.

The NYCN Chairman says the theme for this year’s International Youth Day titled: “Transforming food systems, Youth innovation for human and planetary health” stressed the need for inclusive support mechanisms that will ensure that Youths continue to amplify efforts collectively and individually to restore the planet and protect life, while integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems.

The NYCN stressed the need to strive towards poverty reduction; social inclusion; health care; biodiversity conservation; and climate change mitigation by the year 2030.

The success of achieving food increase and healthy living the NYCN Chairman disclosed will not be achieved without the meaningful participation of young people, caution on Consumption patterns that impact one’s personal health, said such enlightenment should be instilled early in the life of young people.

While noting that with the world’s population expected to increase by 2 billion people in the next 30 years, it has become recognized by numerous stakeholders that simply producing a larger volume of healthier food more sustainably will ensure human and planetary wellbeing.

The NYCN Chairman thanked Gov. Yahaya Bello for performing creditably well in the State, said his Progressive and laudable activities have repositioned youth in the country in a more favorable spot, coming out to seek for leadership role across all sectors of life.

The NYCN says it is using this year’s IYD to celebrate Gov. Bello whose enviable quality and milestones on the socio-political and economic landscape of the Confluence State has help repositioned the fortune of youths across the 21 Local Government Areas.

The NYCN disclosed that the stage is now set for Gov. Bello, the WHITE LION to roar to the National level come 2023.
said his passion for change through his youthful potency is reason why the Council is celebrating him.

The NYCN called on the state government to through the Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and other relevant related ministries and agencies, leverage and follow up with the recommendation that will be derived from the arrangement of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Major Group for Children and Youth who agreed to work in collaboration with DESA, with the aim of carrying out a global survey in collaboration with partners around the world, to report on youth’s perspectives related to issues pertaining to nutrition, food security, environmental sustainability, food consumption habits, food access and cost, and mechanisms for youth inclusion in the dialogues of transforming food systems.

 

The State Chairman appreciated the vision of Gov. Yahaya Bello whose area of focus and achievement is rapidly addressing the above concerns.

He noted that his blueprint plans for the state caved out in the early days of his administration is what the world is focusing at now with just few areas to be adopted, said the NYCN have no doubt in the capacity of the current government in infusing to it plans the resolution and action plans that would be release globally for the betterment of youth in the state, and securing the future of her citizen.

The Chairman thanked the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello for his supports towards youth in the state while urging everyone in the state to make themselves available and as tool towards achieving a better society the NYCN craves for.
