Insecurity: Kogi NYCN, sets to host summit


 

Irked over the incessant insecurity, ravaging the state, the Kogi eastern branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has set up a committee to host Peace and Security meetings.

 

The summit is planned to put together critical stakeholders to address challenges facing the zone.

NYCN, in its communique signed by its Zonal Chairman and Zonal Leader, Comrade Ameh Okpanachi, Comrade SB Emmanuel, at the end of the zonal meeting held at Ankpa Local Government of Kogi state on Saturday, commend the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his efforts in tackling security challenges in the state.

The Council, however, appealed to the governor to help in the actualization of the call by the Royal father, the Onu Ankpa to establish a powerful military base in Kogi East.

While praying to God to repose the souls of those who were killed during the deadly attack on the people of Ankpa, by gunmen, the council urged the people of the area to be vigilant and report any suspected activities in their areas to appropriate security agencies.

“On the crisis in Omala and Bassa Local Government Areas, Council commended all the stakeholders involved in driving for peace and appealed that they should engage more by deploying all means to quell the crises and bring lasting solutions. The Council also pledged to drive interventions to build peace in the affected areas,” the communique added.

The Youth council equally appealed to the state governor and the Local Government Chairmen to include Youth Council Representatives in the Security Council, to get first-hand information on security management at their various levels.

Meanwhile, the NYCN paid a Courtesy Call and Condolence Visit to the Executive Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Council and the Onu Ankpa to condole and sympathize with the good people of the area on the recent robbery attack which led to the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

The Executive Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Council, Hon. Ibrahim Abagwu, who received the NYCN delegation, led by the Zonal Leader, Comrade Engr. SB Emmanuel briefed the Council on what happened and showed optimism that with the high-security architecture and network of the local government, the perpetrators of the robbery attack would soon be apprehended to pay for disturbing the peace of Ankpa and causing loss of lives and properties.

Also, the Onu Ankpa, HRH Alhaji Abdulmalik Umar thanked the Council and used the opportunity to call for the establishment of a more powerful security / military base in Kogi East which would be able to combat such firepower as displayed in Ankpa during the robbery attack.
