Insecurity: Edo PDP Urges Gov. Okpebholo To Adopt Obaseki’s Security Architecture To Secure Edo State

By Ikhili Ebalu, Benin City
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to adopt the security architecture left behind by the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to stem the tide of kidnapping and other security challenges presently ravaging the state.
The newly elected State Publicity Secretary (SPS) of the party, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, (Esq) made the call at his inaugural meeting with journalists at the party secretariat in Benin City on Tuesday.
Ogbegie, who pointed out that governance is continual and pepetual counseled Governor Okpebholo to improve on the security architecture and other policies he inherited from Obaseki.
He noted that, Edo people will be victims of such policy sumasualts as is presently being experienced in the wave of insecurity in the state with the abandonment of the security structure he met on assumption of office.
Today, how many of us can travel to Abuja on the road using Auchi road? Very rare. How many of us even have the funds to take flight from here to Abuja? Not many of us. But if the government is able to revamp the security architecture of Edo state, then there will be relative security.
Now, we as PDP are not even saying revamp the security architecture of Edo state.
We are saying, the security architecture that you met, why change it? You can take it, you can improve on it. Why did you discard it? The only thing Monday Okpebholo has done as governor, he came in and he is dismantling all the structures of his predecessor because they are in different political parties.
He doesn’t understand that government is a continuous process. Somebody was there before. You are there now. And you will leave. After the four years by the special grace of God, you will leave and somebody else will replace you.
“So, if everybody keeps bringing his own, holding his own all the time, without improving on or adopting what he meets, then we will never make progress as a people. So I want to call on Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State to look at what he meant on the ground and improve on them”, he said .
Also speaking, the immediate past Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Chris Enehikhare, said the past administration constructed 1300 km of roads across the state between 2016 and 2024.
Why dismissing the claim that the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki is on the run, said it was a lie from the pit of hell, stressing that, Obaseki wanted to give the present governor the opportunity to prove his worth to the people of the state.
While appealing to journalists for fair and accurate reportage of its activities, the PDP spokesperson pointed out that they’ll criticize the present All Progressives Congress (APC) led Edo State government and assured it will do so objectively, accurately and will not trade insults.
“Edo is in a dangerous season of governance by propaganda and incompetence under the APC.
“The government has stalled governance, and erased progress made by the Obaseki-led administration in land administration and reforms, civil service reforms, urban renewal projects, the drive to open Edo State to more private investors to spur economic growth and progress.
According to Ogbegie, the PDP will not just be criticising, but proposing alternative policies rooted in the Constitution, justice, and the people’s welfare.
“I appeal for objectivity and courage in reporting Edo’s realities. Do not let fear or favour compromise your professional ethics. The press must tell Edo people the truth, not sponsored narratives.
The PDP respects freedom of the press and will defend it whenever threatened.
He stated that, the party’s responsibility as Edo people is clear — to rescue truth from propaganda, competence from mediocrity, and hope from the ashes of bad governance. Together with the media, we will do just that.”
