Increase in Agricultural Sector: Onion Producers’ President Canvasses Support For Tinubu


 

 

As part of a way of increasing the agricultural revolution in the country, the Nigerian political class have been asked to jettison their grievances and build a strong support for the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the mindset of moving the nation out of the current socio-economic challenges and perverse insecurity ravaging the country at the moment.

This candid advise was given by the Executive President of Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, Alh. Aliyu Isah Maitasamu while fielding questions from journalists in Sokoto recently.

Maitasamu stated this against the backdrop of the twin backlash of rising inflationary trend and insecurity toll on the nation’s economy, adding that what the country needed presently rather is improvement on the welfare of its entire citizenry as well as the protection of their lives and properties.

Insecurity as he remarked has an added devastating blow on the country’s food sustainability chain. People at the moment in some parts of the country are running for their lives in search of security rather than what it’s use to be, white collar jobs while in some other areas the bandits demand some tokens from farmers to allow them entrance into their farm lands.

This abnormality alongside inflation have caused a big problem in the onion business in the country just as he pointed out also that some of the cost of the accessories used in the production of onions has skyrocketed beyond the reach of many of the farmers.

Maitasamu who is also the Executive Secretary of Regional Observatory Body of Onion sector of West Central Africa spoke very extensively on the dangers inherent in an unstable government, however opined that the political class who feels bitter and aggrieved with the outcome of the just concluded general elections in the country should rather seek redress at courts of relevant jurisdiction for quick resolution of the matter.

Speaking further he stated that provision of security is key and as such, the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be supported not just to secure lives and properties but also improve the welfare of the people by way of increasing the Gross Domestic Product, GDP of Nigerians via superlative production of the state economy.

All these according to him as he rightly affirmed that insecurity has greatly impacted negatively both on the yearly yields and income of onion farmers in the country will nonetheless reduce if the federal government is supported by all and sundry to tackle the menace headlong.

On the issue of accessing more credit facilitates for it’s members as a way of boosting their production outputs, he lamented the failure of the immediate past administration through the CBN anchor borrowers programme to grant them their request, but promise that this time around modalities are on top gear to sign a contract with some key players in the agricultural industry to grant them such facility.
