Senatorial Candidate for Kogi West under the New Democratic Congress, NDC, Rev. (Surv) Zacchaeus Jonathan, has called on fathers and elders across Kogi State to remain steadfast, saying the strength of the state rests on the strength of its fathers.
In a special message to the fathers of Kogi State released Saturday, Rev. Jonathan described men as the “unseen pillars of our homes and communities” who carry the weight of providing even in difficult economic times.
“You tighten your belt so your children can eat. When our roads are bad and schools are failing, you still wake up before dawn to make sure your family has hope. Nigeria may not always say thank you, but I see you. And I know that if the fathers stand strong, the state will stand strong,” he said.
Speaking as a son, husband, and brother, the senatorial hopeful said his legislative agenda would center on making fatherhood “less of a burden and more of a blessing.” He outlined four key promises to fathers if elected:
He pledged to push for laws and legislative oversight that create jobs, support small businesses, and ensure fair wages. “A father should not have to choose between feeding his family and paying school fees,” he stated.
Rev. Jonathan said no father should bury a child because of insecurity. He promised to prioritize bills and collaboration with security agencies to protect farms, markets, and communities across Kogi West.
He said Kogi children deserve functional schools and skills that pay. He pledged to advocate for vocational training, scholarships, and youth programs that transform young people “from liabilities into assets.”
The candidate said every policy he supports will be tested by one question: “Does this strengthen or weaken the family?” He vowed to stand against anything that undermines the role of fathers and the sanctity of the home.
Rev. Jonathan asked fathers for their wisdom, prayers, and votes, saying he cannot build the future alone. “The same way you provide for your families, let us build a state where every father can provide without shame,” he appealed.
He concluded by honoring fathers for their sacrifices and praying for God’s strength, restoration, and long life for them to see their children rise. “I am asking for your trust and your vote, not for my sake, but for the sake of the homes you are building,” he added.
