I Will Alleviate Suffering Of The Downtrodden In Society When Elected, Says Sergius Ogun

A former member of the Federal House of Representatives who represented Esan North-East and Esan South-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Deacon Sergius Oseasochie Ogun has formally made his intention known to the Edo State Executive Committee of Labour Party (LP) to contest Edo 2024 Governorship election.
Sergius Ogun who was accompanied by mammoth crowd to the state secretariat of LP in Benin City was received by the State Working Committee of the party led by its chairman Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi.
After a closed door meeting with the leaders of the party, the founder of Sergius Oseasochie Ogun Foundation (SOOF), who stated he was elated with the reception accorded him by the leaders of the party disclosed that his major priority if elected as the flagbearer of LP candidate and subsequent wins the governorship election of Edo State, is to reduce the suffering of the downtrodden in the society haven came from very poor background.
While sympathizing with Edo State farmers who extremely find it difficult to get their produce to the urban areas, Ogun noted that as a farmer who is very close to the rural dwellers in the state, he would make life meaningful to them by providing accessible roads to their farmland.
“I am aware that farmers are losing their produce due to bad roads and the cost of transportation. I will ensure access roads to farms in our state. I did it as a lawmaker, so being an executive governor, it will be easier.”
Going further, the former federal lawmaker added: “Most of you might be aware that I have been a member of this party for so long and worked behind the scene and later attack the issues of the campaign of February 2023 openly.
“believe Labour Party stands for the ordinary people in Nigeria, the downtrodden of Edo State. So, we must use the party platform to liberate the downtrodden in the street. With Labour government in Osadebey Avenue will liberate the downtrodden in this state and we are going to do that through the local government councils.
“Under my government come 2024, the 18 local government councils in the state will be given autonomy, whatever money due to the local government councils, they will get. Where the state government needs to collaborate with the local government councils, we will do that. When we have functioning local government councils in this state, life will become bearable in this state.”
Barr. Ogun stressed the need for local government councils to be allowed to function because they are closer to the people, and they know what happens in the rural areas.
While promising standard healthcare for all when he becomes governor, the federal lawmaker said no government official under his watch will use public fund to travel to abroad for medical checkup.
“We will not allow government officials to use public funds for medical trip abroad and we will make sure all our health facilities are put in good shape. Our primary healthcare centres in rural areas will be fixed to make sure they function well by ensuring that they have basic equipment.”
