How Auditor General for Local Government is stabilizing Local Government administration
By Chris Ben-Kato Senior Special Assistant on Information and communication strategy
Like his predecessor in office, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government, Hon Yakubu Adabenege is known for his humility and service to humanity.
As a resilient administrator who had work under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo before he was appointed as the Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government, Hon Yakubu Adabenege learnt a lot during the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo as the then Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government.
On assumption of office, Hon Adabenege never wasted time in building on the good foundation his predecessor in office laid. He immediately ensured effectiveness in the continued auditing of Local Government assets and finances to ensure the smooth running of the Local government system in the state.
Interestingly when the state successfully conducted its Local Government election last year, Hon Adabenege immediately swung into action by convening a meeting with the newly elected Council Chairmen to acquaint them with the desirability of transparency, accountability and efficiency in office in line with the Advanced New Direction Administration of His Excellency, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
The action of Hon Adabenege was a clear manifestation of his desire to ensure that the workings of all the Local Government Chairmen in the state is seamless with the office of the Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government.
Hon Adabenege is a politician with wealth of experience. He has served as an accounting officer with the Obajana branch of the then Diamond Bank. He has also served meritoriously with the defunct Kogi Savings and Loan Lokoja where he ensured the effective operations of the Kogi state owned Bank.
Today, as Hon Adabenege pilots the affairs of the office of the Kogi State Local Government Auditor General, the twenty one councils in the state are daily been guided by professional standards of government expenditure. He has ensured that as the Local Government Council Chairmen embarked on their mandate of delivering the dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots, they never deviate from the standard of accountability laid down by the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Hon Adabenege is humanitarian in nature. Those who have worked around him and those that are currently working with him can always testify of his generosity to humanity. He has offered helping hands to the less priveledge in the society.
It is on record that the youths and women of his community have continued to benefit immensely from his human milk of kindness. Many youths and women across the twenty one Local Government Areas of the state have also benefited from Hon Adabenege’s nature given kindness.
Importantly is the fact that today civil servants working across the twenty one Local Government Areas of the state are enjoying the needed incentives in their offices courtesy of the base line for accountability being preached by the Auditor General for Local Government.
Civil servants working in all the twenty one Local Government Areas of the state are the bedrock for grassroots development. In this regard the office of the Auditor General for Local Government is very critical in the monitoring of the assets and finances of the Local Government Councils in the state. Hon Adabenege has continued to do his best in ensuring that the Advanced New Direction Administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo continue to excel in Local Government administration.
