The Lawmaker representing Omala State Constituency, Hon. Umar Yahaya, has once again proven why he is regarded as the best representative the Constituency has ever produced.
From his early days in public service, Hon. Umar, popularly called “Connect,” made it clear that the people of Omala would be his priority.
Whether on the floor of the Kogi State House of Assembly or in the field through direct interventions, he has consistently made a positive impact on the lives of his constituents.
That consistent record of service has made his name a recurring decimal in political conversations across Ankpa Federal Constituency. It is no surprise that calls are now growing for him to take a shot at the House of Representatives to serve the wider Ankpa Federal Constituency.
Going by the zoning and rotation arrangement, stakeholders argue that the people of Omala are well positioned and favoured to represent the Constituency at the national level.
The case for his expanded mandate was on full display over the weekend as Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, commissioned several legacy projects executed by Hon. Umar Yahaya as constituency projects in Ibado-Akpacha, Omala Local Government Area.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Joel Salifu, praised Hon. Umar’s intervention in grassroots development and security, and highlighted the newly established military Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Omala as a major boost to the state’s security architecture.
He commended the complementary role the lawmaker has played in supporting government efforts, pointing out that his likes would be encouraged and supported to do more for the people.
Speaking at the commissioning, Gov. Ododo restated his administration’s commitment to grassroots development and to strengthening security across Kogi State. He commended the people of Omala for their unity and sustained support, stressing that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development.
Among the projects inaugurated were solar-powered boreholes with standby generators in Ofejiji, Ódó, Egbachi, and Agbenema communities, aimed at improving access to clean water. Also commissioned were the Ibado-Akpacha Police Post, motorcycles distributed to security agencies to enhance operational mobility, and a vehicle donated to the Ife Development Association.
Gov. Ododo reiterated that security remains a top priority of his administration, noting that the FOB in Omala is part of ongoing efforts to address insecurity.
He described the provision of motorcycles to security agencies as critical for rapid response to criminal activities and urged residents to cooperate by supplying timely and credible information to security operatives.
“The government is fully aware of your concerns and is working diligently to improve living conditions and restore lasting peace across Kogi State,” the Governor assured.
In his remarks, Hon. Umar Yahaya said the projects reflect his commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and assured that more interventions are in the pipeline.
He reaffirmed his dedication to grassroots development and to supporting efforts that guarantee the safety and wellbeing of his people.
The Executive Chairman of Omala LGA, Mark Edibo, lauded the initiatives, saying they would significantly improve the quality of life in the area. Similarly, the Onuh Ife and Chairman of the Omala Traditional Council, Boniface Musa, described the projects as unprecedented in the area. While expressing appreciation to the lawmaker, he called on the state government to intensify efforts in tackling the prevailing security challenges.
The event drew community leaders, residents, and stakeholders who applauded the collaborative effort between the state government and the legislator.
Across sectors — from water and education to empowerment, the construction of a Police station, hospitals, and several other interventions — Hon. Umar has built a reputation for effective representation at home. The scale and impact of his work provide an obvious indication that he would bring the same energy, focus, and results-driven approach to Abuja if given the mandate to represent Ankpa Federal Constituency.
