Hon Abang shows concern for constituents’ plight, supports construction of Wanwul Bridge in Boki, Cross River
The member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives at the National Assembly, Hon Victor Abang, has visited the site of the ongoing construction of Wanwul Bridge in Arongba-Osokom, Boki Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State.
The lawmaker, who has continued to demonstrate pragmatic and proactive leadership in his representation of his people in the Green Chamber, during the visit, promised to support the grading of the dilapidated 1km road leading to the bridgehead, having earlier made contribution to support the construction of the bridge.
In a statement after the visit, the parliamentarian said:
“Today, I visited the site of the ongoing construction of the Wanwul Bridge in Arongba-Osokom, Boki LGA. This bridge, which connects over 90 percent of the community’s farmland, is more than just a piece of infrastructure. It is a project that speaks directly to our people’s history, their struggles, and their resilience.
“For decades, farmers and traders in Osokom relied on makeshift crossings that often collapsed during the rainy season, cutting them off from markets and exposing them to hardship. This bridge represents the breaking of that long cycle and the opening of a new chapter in our collective story.
“At the conception stage, I made a significant donation to guarantee its success. And today, during my on-site inspection, I renewed that commitment by pledging to support the grading of the dilapidated 1km road that leads to the bridgehead—because a bridge without access is no bridge at all.
“It is my conviction that with unity and shared effort, our community’s march to civilization is not only possible but inevitable. Standing on that historic ground, I recalled the scripture: ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it’ (Psalm 127:1). With faith, commitment, and unity, this bridge will do more than connect farmlands—it will connect generations, honour our past, and secure the future of Osokom and beyond.”
