Group Counters IGP’s Claim On Welfare Of Junior Police Officer

A concerned group in the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has opposed to the recent claim by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali, regarding the welfare of the Junior Police Officers in the force.

According to the group, the IGP had in his lecture delivered at an occasion on March 17, 2022, made some claim about the welfare of the junior police officers in the force, as follows:

KITS AND ACCOUNTRMENT:- The IGP claimed he had ensured that all serving police personnel were provided with kits and accoutrement and that the process was in progress.

The group, however said that the claim was unfounded and could be further proved as they made bold to say at random, police anywhere could be accosted and asked the last time if ever they had been issued kits.

The group further stated that: ”TAX DEDUCTION:- One need not beg to be told or convinced that the claim that the IGP in his magnanimity that had ensured that serving police personels are exempted from the payment of tax with effective date April 2022, even when the FEC has given directive as orchestrated by Endsars demand is not true.

”PAYMENT OF NEW SALARY:-He also informed members of the force that the new anticipated salary( i.e 20%) may be paid at the end of the month of March 2022 (a probability that is waiting for the best possible opportunity to be set aside if not followed up like as usual). Your guess will be as good as mine all things been equal.

”STRIKE:-The Claim that the strike, currently making wave in the headlines of news in almost all the social media is not real.

”This claim is condemnable, irresponsive and non-charllant to the plight of the junior ranks, little wonder the turnout of able bodied young men and women who should apply for police job in the last recruitment was very low, because the working condition is not better than when you are not working at all, not to mention the risk involved.

”PENSION:-The claim that the IGP is working tirelessly to remove both retired and serving members of the force from contributory pension scheme leaves a lot to wonder since experience has come to teach all members of the force that promises like that can never stop. Hence, the reason for the common statement in the force which says ‘NO BE TODAY YASH DONE DEY FOR BACK’. What is the point taking glory over what is yet to be accomplished.

”RUMOURS AND KEEPING OF SECRETS:-The advice that men of the police force should keep secret, is like beating-up a child and still asking him not to cry; the men of the force are not smiling, this neglect is too much.

”FORCE HEADQUARTERS ABUJA:-Some of the ranks and according to the IGP are not abreast with latest information.
This is an amazing point in this age of globalization, that has made and brought to ease the process of information dissemination, what bad management of time will it be to go seek for any information if the trouble is worth it at all when the source seems to be standing in position of stooges”.

”We, therefore urge the IGP to as a matter of urgency do the needful to ensure improved welfare package for the junior police officers, and backed up his words with action”.

Recalled that there was a report recently on social media of
a proposed strike by policemen scheduled to start on 26th of March, 2022 over poor welfare.

However, the police authorities in Nigeria, debunked the news of the proposed strike by its personnel.

The Deputy Force Public Relation’s CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the publications were fake.

He went ahead to allege that the reports were a mischievous attempt by unscrupulous individuals to bring the Force to disrepute, misinform the general public and heat the polity.

But the concerned aggrieved officers insisted that the strike would go on as proposed.
