Gov. Bello’s transparency policy geared towards promoting accountability – Kogi Accountant General
Kogi State Accountant General, Alh Momoh Jibril has disclosed that the present administration transparency policy is geared towards promoting accountability and providing accurate financial reports for its citizens
This was made known during the occasion of the Citizen Accountability Report on 2020 Financial Statement in lokoja
Alh. Momoh Jibril who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Accountant General, Mr. Elijah Evinemi said the purpose of the program is to enlighten the people on how government resources are being spent.
He said with such enlightenment, citizens can use the information to measure the performance of the government.
Alh. Jibril who said that accountability provides a very important role in creating a good governance activity added that Citizens report is another way of improving public confidence in government’s performance.
While commending the administration of Alh. Yahaya Bello for its transparency, the Accountant General said the gov is a strong believer in the participatory process of budget formulation, a method he said will address the yearnings of the people
The Director, Consolidation Accountant, Elder Sunday Odeh in his presentation said, the Citizens report program is the first of its kind in the state and the presentation will reveal how funds realized in the year 2020 were utilized by the state government.
He said the Citizen Accountability Report on 2020 financial Statements, the International Public Sector Accounting Standard requires that the state prepare a general-purpose Financial Statement that can be useful for stakeholders
Speaking further, he said the govt link indicator of DLi 2.2 of the State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Program mandate state to prepare and present the accountability report to their citizen on how funds are spent
Describing the Citizen Accountability report as a series of graphical and tabular illustrations of the content of the audited financial statement, Mr. Odeh said it is prepared by the office of the state accountant general on behalf of the govt of the state and it is to ensure accountability of public funds
Noting the importance of budget, the presenter said budget is key to the government in terms of its financial plan.
