Gov. Bello’s Commitment to Fighting HIV/AIDS Gets Commendation of KOSACA Board Chairman, Secretary, Members.


 

The Chairman, Executive Secretary and Members of Kogi State Agency For Control of HIV/Aids, have expressed deep appreciation to Gov Yahaya Bello for his dogged commitment to the fight against HIV and Aids.

 

Speaking at the Meeting of the Board Members yesterday, the Chairman of KOSACA, Pastor Hon. Roseline Alabi, disclosed that the present administration’s commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS now put the prevalence rate for the State at 0.9%.

 

The Chairman explained that HIV/AIDs can be treated, disclosed that 49,333 people have been tested to be positive in the State.

Through the tracking process of the State Government, she explained that 23,939 people are now being tracked and are receiving treatment.

Pastor Roseline Alabi described Gov. Bello as a leader with zero tolerance to death of citizens, reason why he has remained relentless in his commitment to supporting KOSACA.

 

 

The Chairman expressed deep appreciation to Gov. Yahaya Bello for supporting KOSACA to attend the 6th National Council on AIDS with the approval of two memos by the Governor, assured of the unrelentless efforts of the Board Members.

 

The Chairman thanked all agencies supporting KOSACA, and particularly paid glowing tributes to AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF) and Centre for integrated health programs (CIHP) as some of the partners in the State that is also intervening in HIV program.

The Chairman lauded the selflessness of the Executive Secretary,
Dr. Yunusa Amoto Sheidu to ensuring that the vision and mission of Gov. Yahaya Bello, towards fighting HIV AIDS is achieved, urged him not to relent in his efforts of making the present administration’s objectives realized.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Yunusa Amoto Sheidu, Executive Secretary of KOSACA, described HIV and Aids as a disease like every other disease, advised against stigmatization.

While pointing out that the agency has put in place measures to begin widespread sensitization against discrimination, pointing out that there are more serious diseases that is more than HIV and Aids, added that it is not a death sentence.

The Executive Secretary promised to strengthen the awareness campaign and surveillance through weekly radio enlightenment programs, solicited support on sponsoring the program from well meaning individuals, corporate organizations.

The Executive Secretary described prevention Initiative using enlightenment and sensitization programs as cheaper and the best form of prevention for HIV and Aids.

Dr. Yunusa Amoto Sheidu expressed deep appreciation to Gov Yahaya Bello for his support to the agency, assured that the agency is now repositioned to do more in the fight against HIV and Aids as envisioned by Gov Yahaya Bello.
