The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, on Saturday attended the reception held in honour of the newly turbaned Ondachi-Ogbani (Wa’ari) of Ohikwo Village, Ganaja, His Royal Highness Alhaji Alhassan Zakari (Dubu) II.
The colourful reception, which attracted traditional rulers, political leaders, family members and well-wishers, was also attended by the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu Yusuf, alongside other top-notch dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Gegu congratulated the new traditional ruler on his assumption of the throne and described his emergence as a divine call to serve his people with humility, wisdom and dedication.
The Commissioner urged the Ondachi-Ogbani to make the maintenance of peace and unity the hallmark of his reign, noting that no community can achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere of rancour, division and strife.
He called on him to be a father to all, irrespective of family, political or religious differences, and to strive relentlessly for the development of Ohikwo Village and the entire Ganaja axis.
Engr. Gegu assured the traditional ruler of the support of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in building the infrastructure so desired by the community. He however noted that such development can only be achieved when peaceful coexistence reigns in the community.
He urged the new chief to make security cardinal in his leadership, by working closely with security agencies, vigilante groups and community stakeholders to protect lives and property.
The Commissioner also advised him to form an inclusive governance in leading the people, by carrying along elders, youths, women and all segments of the community in decision-making for the collective good of Ohikwo.
Engr. Gegu expressed confidence that with peace, unity, inclusive leadership and a firm commitment to security, the reign of HRH Alhaji Alhassan Zakari (Dubu) II will usher in a new era of growth, harmony and prosperity for Ohikwo Village.
He once again congratulated the Ondachi-Ogbani and prayed for a long, peaceful and successful reign.
