Gegu South Delivers Block Votes for Karimi as APC Holds Peaceful Kogi West Senatorial Primary

GEGU SOUTH, KOGI LGA – Gegu South Ward witnessed a massive turnout on Monday as members of the All Progressives Congress delivered all their votes for Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, the senatorial aspirant for Kogi West, in a primary defined by order, unity, and enthusiasm.
The decisive outcome underscored growing cohesion within the APC in Kogi West, with party leaders crediting recent reconciliation efforts between Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Senator Karimi for bridging past differences.
Speaking after the exercise, the Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, said the unified support reflected deliberate bridge-building at the state level.
“It was possible because of the reconciliation of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, my boss, with Sen. Karimi,” he said. “We resolved to work for the victory of Sen. Karimi 100 percent.”
Engr. Bashiru noted that the vote also affirmed confidence in Karimi’s track record of service and his consistent advocacy for party unity and grassroots development. He commended constituents for their peaceful conduct during the exercise, which was monitored by party officials and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“I am not surprised by the large turnout, given the high level of enlightenment that preceded the exercise,” he said. “It shows that when people understand the purpose of such a convergence, they respond responsibly.”
He urged APC members to remain steadfast as the primaries progress, reminding them that the power to choose the party’s flag bearer rests in their hands. He encouraged supporters to assess aspirants based on antecedents, capacity, and alignment with the party’s vision.
Engr. Bashiru said the trust placed in Governor Ododo’s leadership was already yielding results in strengthening party unity and governance across Kogi State. He expressed gratitude to the governor for his political wisdom and assured that Lokoja and Kogi Local Government Area would continue to stand firmly with the APC in all future elections.
The overwhelming support from Gegu South and the entire Kogi LGA adds significant momentum to Senator Karimi’s campaign as the party moves toward finalizing its candidates for the 2027 general elections.
