The Forum of Former Elected Council Chairmen, Kogi State, has described the death of former Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Hon. Hezekiah Obafemi, as a sad and painful loss.
The Forum, in a statement issued on behalf of former elected Chairmen by its Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Aboh, said the death of Hon. Obafemi has left an indelible mark and a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
Hon. Aboh described the late Hon. Obafemi as a committed grassroots leader, a dedicated public servant and an elder statesman who served the people of Kabba/Bunu with humility, diligence and passion.
According to the Forum, the former Chairman was known for his peace-loving nature and his contributions to the development of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area and the unity of Okun land.
“Hon. Hezekiah Aiyedogbon Obafemi was one of our own. His death is not just a loss to his immediate family and Kiri Kingdom, but to the entire forum and the local government system in Kogi State. He served meritoriously as an elected Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LGA and left behind a legacy of service and community development,” the statement said.
The Forum recalled that Hon. Obafemi was among the early set of elected Chairmen who laid the foundation for local government administration in the present Kabba/Bunu after its creation, and was later widely respected as an elder in the political family of the local government. He remained active as a member of the PDP Elders Council in Kabba/Bunu until his death.
The Forum extended its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Kiri Kingdom, the Kabba/Bunu Traditional Council, and the government and people of Kogi State.
It prayed Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest and give his family and the people of Kabba/Bunu the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Hon. Obafemi, from Kiri in Bunu District, passed on this week, with tributes pouring in from across Kogi West describing him as a distinguished leader and community builder.
