FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IDAH APPOINTS NEW POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN


 

 

 

The governing council of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, at it’s 93rd regular meeting has approved the appointment of Mr. Bature Bitrus as the new Polytechnic Librarian.

Mr. Bature Bitrus’s appointment followed the expiration of the second tenure of Dr. Joseph S Opaleke who had been Polytechnic Librarian since 2010.

Born on 15th March, 1963, the Polytechnic Librarian hails from Bika-Babba, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

He started his formal education from Ekan Trinity Primary School, Bika-Babba, in 1973 where he completed his Primary education in 1978.

Immediately after his secondary education in 1983 at the Mbiya Government Secondary School, Takum, he proceeded to the college of preliminary studies, Yola, for a higher certificate (popularly known as interim Joint Matriculation Board – IJMB) between 1983 and 1985; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,Kaduna, 1986 where he obtained a Bachelor of Library science (BLS); Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, 2006-2010 and got a degree of masters, (MLS) Library Science.

A trained Library administrator with a certificate in Public information in 2011 and a certificate in Effective and Efficient Management of College Libraries in 2014, Mr. Bature started his career in 1990 with Saint Francis of Assisi Theological college, Wusasa, Zaria immediately after the one (1) year National Youth Service at Ogun State Library Board, Abeokuta, 1989-1990.

He joined the services of the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State in 1991 as a Serials Librarian from where he rose through the ranks to become Chief Librarian (Technical Services) in 2017 before his appointment as the Polytechnic Librarian, the Federal Polytechnic Idah, Kogi state.

Besides, he is a professional member of Nigeria Library Association (NLA) and Librarians Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN).
The Polytechnic Librarian is also a prolific writer with not less than sixteen Academic Publications to his credit both Local and International journal, and conference papers.

He is happily married to Mrs. Mary Bature, and the marriage is blessed with four (4) children.
