The Caretaker Chairman of Kabba Bunu LGA, Barr. Zacchaeus Dare Michael, has warned unequivocally that going forward any family wishing to bury their loved ones at home, but failed to follow due process would be resisted.
According to Barr. Dare, ” Any family interested in home burial but failed to write an administrative application to the Local Government, with the stipulated amount paid into the Council account, with evidence of receipt of payment and inspection carried out by the Local Government”, will have no choice but to rebury their loved ones twice.
The Caretaker Chairman, Kabba Bunu LGA, made the disclosure in a statement, warned that henceforth any family member who engages in such authorized home burial, the Local Government will direct the environmental and the health department to exhume such dead bodies.
The Caretaker Chairman frowned at the abuse of home burial taking place in the Local Government, cautioned fraudulent elements who are negotiating with family members that want to bury loved ones at home to desist forthwith.
The Caretaker Chairman disclosed that some fraudulent elements negotiate unofficially and collect monies into private pockets to allow family members to bury their loved ones, said such practice must stop.
The Chairman cautioned criminal elements who over the years have circumvented the local Government process of burying at home to be warned as the long arms of the law will soon catch up with them, while the family engaged in such deals will face the embarrassment of reburying their loved ones.
The Caretaker Chairman warned criminal elements parading themselves as front for the local Government and cheating the Local Government of revenue to turn a new leaf will be dealt with decisively.
The Caretaker Chairman also sent a strong warning to the Local Government staff constituting themselves as authorized revenue collectors and to allow for home burial to have a rethink as their time is up, said they should stop forthwith or be decisively dealt with.
