Evacuate Refuse Dumps In Abakaliki Capital City Within 24Hours Or Face Serious Sanction- Gov Nwifuru Warns Environment Commissioner

The Governor of Ebonyi State Chief Francis Nwifuru has directed the State Commissioner for Environment Hon. Victor Chukwu to immediately ensure that all refuse dumps in Abakaliki capital city are evacuated within the next 24 hours and failure to comply strictly with the directive will attract severe sanctions.

This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by his chief press secretary Dr. Monday Uzor in Abakaliki, the State capital.

The Governor who expressed displeasure over the poor environmental condition of the capital city and its environs said it constituted health hazards of the residents of the state and will no longer be tolerated.

According to the statement “I want to warn the commissioner for Environment for the last time to sit up and do the work and get the environment clean because I will not spare him if found wanting this time around.

The Governor tasked residents of the State to cooperate with government and ensure strict compliance to environmental sanitation measures already in place.

” I therefore use this opportunity to urge residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians of the road and blocking of drainage system but should rather use designated dump sites “.

According to the Governor, he will personally move round the City to ensure strict compliance to the directive.
