Establishment of Designated Courts for trial of GBV Offences, speedy implementation of the VAPP LAW Advocated In Kogi.
The Kogi State Working Group on Multi Sectoral Costed Action Plan and Designated Court in Kogi State in collaboration with WARDC, CPI, and Kogi Women Constituency Lead with funding from AWDF have paid an advocacy visit to the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kogi State at the Ministry of Justice.
Speaking on behalf of the Kogi State Working Group, Ms. Eunice Agbogun advocated for the Establishment of Designated courts for trial of Gender Based Violence Offences and speedy implementation of the VAPP LAW in the State.
The Attorney General and Commissioner For Justice was represented by the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Justice.
The Coordinator of the Group, Ms. Eunice Abimbola Agbogun noted that the Ministry of Justice is a major stakeholder in the implementation of VAPP Law, articulated the importance of the multi-sectoral costed action plan and designated courts for the full implementation of the law.
Responding on behalf of the Hon. Attorney General of Kogi State, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Barr. Falilat Musa Yusuf thanked the team for the visit and spoke on the importance of collaboration between State actors and civil society organizations for the attainment of a violence-free society.
Barr. Falilat stated that she is aware that the Chief Judge of the State has assigned some courts for the trial of GBV cases, said it would be officially be announced soon.
She also stated that the Ministry now has a Gender Desk Officer in the person of Barr. Christiana Adejumo, added that there is a budget line item for gender in the 2024 Budget proposal of the Ministry.
She assured that the Hon. Attorney General remains committed to the protection of the rights of all persons in Kogi State.
In attendance at the advocacy were the leads of FIDA Kogi, Concerned Women Forum, WIPF, CYWEF, Gender Focal Person and Directors in the Ministry and CPI.
