The Country President of the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (United Nations-POLAC), Prof Mercy Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has pleaded with protesters and security agencies to ensure that there are no more deaths, molestations and destruction of properties during the ongoing protests in some areas in Nigeria with the hashtag: #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.

She further appealed to the organisers of the protest dubbed “End Bad Governance” and “End Hunger Now” to please give the government more time to right the wrongs, as the protests over hardship faced by the nation enter into Day Three.

These were contained in a statement on Saturday.

According to her, goods and properties worth approximately N6 billion have been lost as a result of the ongoing protests.

She said: “There should be no more killings, no more molestation and no more destruction of properties!” God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Adesanya decried reports of killings and wanton destruction of properties during the demonstrations with hashtags #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria and #EndHungerNow.

Adesanya-Davies said: “The protesters rightly want the government to bring down the price of fuel, give proper wages, offer free education, fix the roads, provide electricity, end insecurity, declare a state of emergency on inflation and disclose lawmakers’ pay, among several demands.

“I continue to plead with the protesters of the protest which commenced on 1st August 2024, to give the federal government more time to right their wrongs and that of the past administrations.

“The hardship as noticed in Nigeria is a global phenomenon. So let us sue for peace and seek for meaningful dialogue for a lasting solution, as President Bola Tinubu’s administration is frantically battling to right the wrongs and deliver to us all the dividends of democracy to Nigeria.”

“Let us remember that President Bola Tinubu has fought and struggled in the past for democracy to be established in Nigeria and let us toe the path of conscience and peace to avoid more loss of lives and wanton damages of properties please.”

She also appealed to the federal and state governments, “To urgently look into the hardship occasioned by the subsidy removal and plight of the suffering masses in the country to avoid completely any form of protest in our nation both now and in future, saying the government can do better.”

Adesanya-Davies, who while mourning during the END SARS PROTEST wrote several books on the END SARS, said: “Not again. Please youths, we don’t want lives wasted and properties destroyed again like during the END SARS protest.”
