A House Of Representative hopeful in Oredo Federal Constitutency, OSARO ONAIWU JNR , told Nigeria Post why, he chose the word culture as one of his campaign slogan.
He said, I know what culture is. The terrain of Africa, the terrain of West Africa, especially NIgeria.
I wrote a statement that we don’t need an economic situation. We need a leader that would come and unify us. That would bring unity to us, and this unity we are looking at we are looking at the unity based on ethnicity, religion. Those are the issues that we are having; and culture plays a big role.
Look at Benin, Some of the sites listed in Benin are UNESCO sites e.g. the Oba palace, the Igun street. Imagine we have a place in Igun street whereby people pay money from all over the world to come and look at our art works. Our art works was stolen before and our art works has been return to us.
Why should we focus on what
was stolen before. Don’t we have people that can create new stuff, that can be admired all over the world.
Have we stopped creating stuff that all our concern is what has been taken before.
We have people who are talented today. We have digital artists. We have people that are doing the physical arts. We have all of that.
According to him, ” in my culture and tourism plan, I plan to get people that would invest, donors, private sector, that would invest in our Culture and tourism. And for culture to work, tourism has to work.”
Last time we checked the data, the highest importation into Nigeria was late pastor T. B. Joshua. We found out that more people came into NIgeria not because of business, they came into Nigeria because of T. B. Joshua. It’s amazing what that means.
If people can from all over the world to find solution in Nigeria, because T. B. Joshua made it an enabling environment. He had services to pick people from the airport to the synagogue.
Just imagine we work on our security in our local government, we work on the hospitality sector in our local government, our culture and tourism, the revenue would shoot high and it would create more jobs for the people.
People would be focusing on government. People focus on government because they don’t have other areas to make money. If other areas are available to make money, nobody wants to get into politics, nobody wants to get into government. People just want to see the dividends of democracy working for them. So, that’s why I chose the culture and tourism aspect as part of my agenda.
