The Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashiru Gegu, has predicted a landslide victory for Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in the forthcoming Kogi Governorship Election, citing the ruling party’s dominance in Ekiti as a sign of what lies ahead.
Engr. Gegu made the remarks shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the Ekiti State Governorship Election result. He said the outcome confirmed the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the party to beat in the North Central.
“We have tested the microphone in Ekiti and the coast is so clear. The people have spoken with one voice, and that voice is APC,” the Commissioner declared.
He thanked the people of Ekiti for reaffirming their trust in the party and expressed confidence that Kogi voters would replicate the feat.
“Thank you the good people of Ekiti. You have shown that performance attracts votes. We shall do same in Kogi for Governor Ododo, inshaAllah. The template is already set,” he said.
Engr. Gegu attributed his prediction to what he called the “superlative performance” of Governor Ododo in more than 2 years in office. He argued that the Governor’s acceptance cuts across party lines because it is “organic and earned, not forced.”
“Governor Ododo’s love by the people is organic. From rural roads to primary healthcare, from civil servant welfare to security of lives and property, Kogites can feel governance. You don’t need to buy loyalty when your work is speaking for you,” he stated.
The Commissioner added that APC’s strength in Kogi goes beyond Ekiti’s template, pointing to the unity within the party and the Governor’s inclusive style of leadership.
“In Kogi, APC is not just a party, it is a movement. When a leader carries everyone along – traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women, and the business community – victory becomes inevitable. That is what Governor Ododo has done,” Engr. Gegu said.
He urged APC members and supporters in Kogi to start grassroots mobilization early and avoid complacency, saying “landslide does not happen by accident, it happens by work.”
“As we begin the journey to the polls, I charge our people to remain united and peaceful. Our message is simple: let the work continue. Kogi is APC, and APC is Kogi,” he concluded.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo was elected in November 2023 and is seeking a second term in office.
