EKINRIN-ADDE DAY 2023; FELIX IKUMAPAYI BAGS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Retired Assistant Director General of the State Security Services, , Felix Obagbenle Ikumapayi MFR, fdc, has been named as one of the recipients of Lifetime Achievement Award of Ekinrin-Adde Community, his home country.

 

The disclosure was made in a letter addressed to him by Mr. Deinde Komolafe, Secretary General, Ekinrin-Adde Community Development Association (EACDA).

Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the highest awards of the community, reserved for those who have distinguished themselves in the service to the community.

Born 7th March, 1957 to the family of the late Durodoye Ikumapayi, who until his death, was Chief Oluyemi of Ekinrin Adde. His mother, Madam Mary Salamotu Ikumapayi (nee Alimi Adenaiye), hailed from Ohun, but later relocated to Ekinrin Adde and resided at Oke Ero.

Felix was one of the pioneer pupils of the then Kabba Division Joint Education Council (KDJEC), primary school, Iyara in 1963. He also attended primary schools at Aiyede Oppa and later at Iluke, both in Kabba Bunu LGA. He completed his Primary Seven (7) and obtained First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) at St. Paul’s Primary School, Kabba in 1969.

Felix was among the second set of students of Baptist High School (BHS), Ekinrin Adde. He sat for, passed, and obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC), ‘O’ Level in 1975.

He then proceeded to Federal Government College, Ilorin for his two-year Higher School Certificate (HSC) ‘A’ Level in June, 1977.

He attended the prestigious University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos, where he obtained B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Political Science.

Mr. Ikumapayi served his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at Government Secondary School (GSS), Ibi, Wukari LGA, in the then Gongola (now Taraba) State, from July 1981 to June, 1982 after which he taught at Egbe Teachers College, Egbe, under the Ministry of Education, Kwara State Government from Sept, 1982 to June, 1984. He joined the Nigerian Security Organisation, NSO (now State Security Service, SSS) with the then Supreme Headquarters Annex, Lagos, of the then Buhari/Idiagbon military administration in June, 1984. He retired from the Service, at the mandatory age of 60 years, on 7th March, 2017, as Assistant Director General, State Services (ADGSS).

While serving in the SSS, he worked in different Directorates of the Service, in its training institutions and some State Commands. He attended very many relevant local as well as foreign courses and seminars, both in Nigeria and abroad. A few of the foreign courses are:
Senior Overseas Intelligence Officer Administrators Course, London: Oct. 1999; 9th Annual International Nigerian Organised Crime Conference, Florida, USA: 2000; National Defence College, Nigeria, Course 16: 2007-2008; Senior Executive in National and International Security, Harvard Kennedy School, USA: Dec 2013.

Felix is a recipient of several awards, including:Award of Excellence as an Ambassador of Unity and for Contribution to the Cause of Development of the Union and the Community by Ekinrin Adde Students Union (EASU): 2011, Meritorious Award for Immense Contributions Towards the Development of the Union by EASU: 2012; Merit Award for Frenetic Support Towards the Educational Advancement and Youth Development in Okunland by the National Association of Okun Students Union (NAOS) in 2013 and also in 2014, Good Leadership Award for Outstanding
Developmental Strides by Kogi Youth Leaders Forum,July, 2015; Award of Excellence by Igala Students Union, 2015 and Alatunse of Diocese of Ijumu by Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion December ,2019.

Others are: Fellow of Defence College, Nigeria (fdc), Aug 2008; National Honours Award of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic
(MFR) in Sept 2014; Fellow of Chattered Institute of Public Management of Nigeria (FCPM): Sept, 2016.

Mr Ikumapayi is happily married and is blessed with very wonderful children. One of them, Aderonke Mopelola Ikumapayi, was elected Miss Gold of Ekinrin Adde Students Union (EASU) in 2011 and also MISS EASU for the year 2011/2012.

Mr Ikumapayi enjoys playing and watching football, Table Tennis, Golf (he is a member of IBB Golf Club in Abuja), Scrabble and jugging, among others.
