The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones (FCIB) has presented a total budget of Three Billion, Nine Hundred and Eighty Four Million, Five Hundred and Sixty Eight Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixteen Naira and Fifty-Six Kobo (#3,984,568,516.56) as the 2022 budget for the Ministry.
The 2022 education budget estimate capturing over #3 Billion capital and over Five Hundred Million recurrent expenditures represent both 25% decrease and 3% increase of the 2021 budget estimate.
Defending the budget at the State House of Assembly on Tuesday, the Commissioner said ongoing projects and new programmes that would improve the quality of education and address emerging challenges in the sector would be catered for.
He said the Ministry’s sustainable Programms like the Implimentation of Education for All project (EDUFAP), the School Adoption and Mentorship Programme, implementation of the Ten Pillars of Education in Nigeria, focus on learners with special needs and the completion of ongoing construction of GYB Model Secondary Schools among other laudable programmes would be taken care of.
While commending the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for giving top priority to education, Wemi Jones urged the House Committee on Education to consider the budget and give approval to all proposals to enable the Ministry achieve its laudable projects in the coming year.
