EDSU CONVOCATION: Gov Obaseki Gives Automatic Employment ————-Directs Contractors to Site,

Edo State Governor and visitor to Edo State University Uzairue, Mr. Godwin Obaseki said that he has instructed the contractors handling the Teaching Hospital of the University to resume work as he has also assured the Vice-Chancellor that the staff housing unit must be completed before the end of this year.

The governor disclosed this during the 3rd Convocation ceremony and award of first and higher degrees, diplomas, prizes and conferment of honorary degrees .

While congratulating the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and staff of the Institution for the tremendous successes the school has recorded since inception said that looking back now, the government does not regret her choice in choosing the Chancellor Dr. Adeyemi Makanjuola and Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor for the University.

The visitor thanked the Vice Chancellor and the management team for the way they have piloted the affairs of the school. There is no doubt or whatsoever that Edo University, Uzairue has continued to thrive in quality and excellence.

“Everytime I get to read about the University, get correspondence on the progress the University is being made, I just sit down and thank God for the choice we made in choosing our Chancellor.”

He congratuted the graduands on their successful completion of their academic journey in the university.

The governor however announced automatic employment into the Edo State Civil Service for exceptional graduates who obtained the University’s price.

“I want to appreciate the management of the institution for keeping to the vision of our government to build a world-class university in Edo. I urge you to keep to the good works of bringing more Laurels to the university and our state”, he stated.

“We will continue to evaluate our financial situation as a government to make sure that we build a world-class university that can deliver quality education to, not only Edo citizens, but Nigerians as a whole”.

In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, expressed gratitude for the continued support given to the school by the State government.

The VC said: “We are very grateful for the immense support from the state government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

“For the graduands, I urge you to continue to be good ambassadors of Edo State University, Uzairue. This is because you will go into the labour market to serve the nation in the field of your academic discipline in which this university has prepared you for.

“The university has maintained her policy of an award of N5 million to the graduating student who has the best entrepreneurial business ideas.

“The goal of the institution is that our students will graduate with different entrepreneurial skills that will make them, not only entrepreneurs or self-employed but employers of labour.”

A total of 142 undergraduate and postgraduate students found worthy in character and learning were awarded Edo University, Uzairue degrees in various disciplines comprise 9 1st Class; 60 2nd Class Upper and 61 2nd Class Lower

Earlier in his address, the Chancellor of the University, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola said that this year, the university has again made him proud by recording a success in the NUC Law full accreditation.

He expressed gratitude to be the pioneer Chancellor of the University particularly as the university is being transformed into one of the best universities in the world.

“My greatest joy today is that I have seen a sense of commitment on the part of the government of Edo State, prudence on the part of management, sense of innovation on the part of the lecturers and preparedness to learn on the part of the students”.

Highpoints of the ceremony was the conferment of honorary Doctorate degree in Business Administration ( D.Litt), honoris causa on Chief Barr. Mike Ozekhome, SAN and Mr. Asue Ighodalo and the commissioning of some of the executed projects by the governor.
