Beyond Headlines: Kogi Journalists Embrace Fitness in Press Week Road Walk

Beyond Headlines: Kogi Journalists Embrace Fitness in Press Week Road Walk

It was a rare sight on the streets of Lokoja on Monday as journalists in Kogi State swapped their pens, keyboards and deadlines for walking shoes and tracksuits.

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, staged a lively endurance walk and fitness exercise to herald the 2026 Press Week, turning the usual newsroom routine into a road show of fitness and camaraderie.

Decked in sportswear, the journalists marched through major streets of the state capital, stretching, sweating and sharing light moments far away from editorial meetings and breaking news alerts.

The exercise, which attracted a large turnout of practitioners across chapels, was not just about physical fitness but about wellness and bonding among media professionals whose demanding schedules often leave little room for personal health.

As they walked, the message resonated: behind every headline and newsbreak is a journalist who needs strength, stamina and sound health to keep the news flowing.

Our correspondent reports that the road walk provided an opportunity for members to unwind, recharge and strengthen professional ties ahead of the tasking days ahead.

For many participants, Monday’s outing was more than exercise — it was a needed pause to refocus and prepare mentally and physically for the core mandate of informing, educating and entertaining the public.

The fitness walk is one of the activities lined up for the week. The exercise continues on Tuesday with a free medical screening for journalists to assess their health status, ahead of the grand finale on Wednesday.
