Edo State SA on SDGs, Sally Suleiman, Leads Cancer Awareness Walk in Benin

In a bid to raise awareness about cancer prevention and early detection, the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Sally Suleiman, led a cancer awareness walk in Benin City.
The event, which was held in line with the global commemoration of World Cancer Day, brought together health professionals, civil society groups, and residents to emphasize the importance of regular screenings, healthy lifestyles, and early diagnosis in the fight against cancer.
Speaking during the walk, Suleiman reiterated the Edo State Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare systems and promoting public awareness on critical health issues.
“Cancer remains a major public health challenge, but early detection can save lives. This awareness walk is part of our efforts to educate residents on preventive measures and available healthcare services.
As part of our commitment, the Office of the Special Adviser on SDGs will be offering free mammograms and prostate screenings because early detection saves lives,” she stated.
She also urged individuals to take charge of their health by going for regular check-ups and screenings while calling on stakeholders to support initiatives that improve cancer care and treatment in the state.
The awareness walk aligns with the SDGs’ commitment to good health and well-being (Goal 3) and reflects the government’s drive to improve healthcare accessibility for all Edo residents.
The special adviser appreciates the Coordinator of the First Lady’s Office, Mrs. Edesili Anani, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Marie Bisi Idaomi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Irenosen Ihensekhien, as well as the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Ministry of Health for supporting the office on this awareness walk.
