The Edo State Government has urged for support of traditional leaders and other critical stakeholders in improving the delivery of quality and affordable healthcare in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, made the call during a town hall meeting with Ward Development Committee (WDC) members and community leaders at the Ehor Council Hall, in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.
Izedonmwen, said ,”government is making efforts to strengthen the delivery of affordable and quality healthcare in rural areas, the state government planned to upgrade 55 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state’s 18 local government areas for upgrade.”
According to him, the goal of the PHC reform project is to have Primary Healthcare Centres that are accessible, affordable and have acceptable standards in terms of infrastructure, equipment, essential drugs and skilled health workforce.
The Executive Secretary noted that the 55 PHCs will be fully equipped with essential drugs and skilled health workers, adding that community partnership is vital in encouraging patronage of primary healthcare services as well as achieving sustainability in health programs.
He urged the community leaders and WDC members to take ownership of the PHCs when completed and protect it from vandals.
