Edo CP, Otimenyin Pledges To Make Edo Safe

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, on Wednesday pledged to make the State safe for everyone and businesses to thrive.
Otimenyin made the pledge during an interractive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, at the NUJ Secretariat in Benin.
The CP urged everyone to join hands with the police to fight crime and crimimality in the state and to build a safer environment.
“My coming to Edo State is to ensure that we make the state safe for everyone. We want to ensure that everyone is protected whither you come from Edo state or being a vistor in the state. Everyone, when they come in, must be safe and happy in Edo State.
“We want to build an environment that will be friendly, an environment where businesses can thrive, where people can live, where tourism that the state is known for can thrive, where your businesses can work, where those in the diaspora can come home and be sure that they can invest.
She said, “We want to build an environment where everybody will be safe. That is why we say ‘wherever you are, if you see something, you say something’. That means you give us information because, with information, we will be able to work,” she said.
The Edo Police Commissioner also emphasized the need for everyone in their various communities to know his or her neighbours to help check criminal activities like armed robbery and cultism.
According to her, “We also want you to know that you should know your neighbours, it is very important. Now that we have a law on kidnapping and cultism that has been domesticated, it simply shows that if you give your house to such people, your house will be brought down.
“Tell us something and we will do something, when you see anything, we want to do a collective work, policing is about everybody. “she added.
On his part, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Festus Alenkhe, assured the CP of a mutual working relationship with the State Police Command.
He also appealed for more time to implement the third-party insurance directive issued by the Inspector
-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, where he suggested, a week-long sensitization program instead.
This move is part of the Edo State Command’s efforts to strengthen security in the state.
CP Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin has made history as the 49th Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, and notably, the first female commissioner to be deployed to the state command.
