Edo 2024 Governorship Election : Former NBA Chairman Akpata Joins The Race

A Labour Party governorship aspirant in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, says he decided to aspire for the number one seat of the state on the platform of the party because it is the only party that is people-oriented.

The former President, Nigeria Bar Association, who disclosed this in Benin, Thursday, during a formally declaration of his ambition, said his interest is for the people of the state hence Labour Party.

The lawyer turned politician who lamented that the people have been taken out of the equation in governance and politics, said that if given the opportunity to fly the flag of LP in the forthcoming election, he will change the narrative.

He said: “My interest is for the people of Edo State. And what I find out in politics and governance in Nigeria today is that the people have been taken out of the equation. No body care about the people.

 

“So, when I look around, the only party I find to be people oriented and to be interested in the lots of our people is Labour Party. So I have come here to express my interest and to carry the people along.”

Akpata promised to take the Labour Party to greater heights in the event that he emerged as the candidate of LP in the primary.

In his response, state chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, said the State Working Committee of the party has accepted to allow him to run, just as he promised a level playing ground for all aspirants.

He however pledged to give all aspirants for the governorship race a level playing ground and urged him to remain resolute in his ambition ahead of the gubernatorial election coming up next year.

Ogbalo said, ” There will be no imposition of candidate, we are going to conduct free and fair primaries. I assure all aspirants, a free and fair primaries will be conducted by the Labour Party.” he concluded.
