Ebonyi First Lady Declares War On Gender Base Violence, Commissions Center

The Wife of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Chief (Mrs) Mary- Maudline Uzomaka Nwifuru has declared the readiness of her office to tackle gender base violence and other forms of violence against women and girls in the State.

She stated this while commissioning ultra mordern Nduru gender base violence center at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AEFUTHA) as part of the activities marking sixteen days activism.

The Governor’s Wife who decried the level women and girls are being violated in the society presently, noted that the State Government under the watch of her dear husband Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru in collaboration with her office would leave no stone unturned in fighting the ugly menance to the stand still in the State, while calling on religious traditional and community leaders to campaign against the menace for a better society.

However, she applauded development partners for supporting her office in the actualization of pet project. She also thanked Ebonyi women for trooping out in their large numbers to support her programmes and assured them of her burning desires to ensure appointment of more women into positions of trust.

The Governor’s wife later paid an advocacy visits to the speaker of Ebonyi State House of Asdembly Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa, the traditional leaders, ministry of women affairs among others.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director of (AEFUTHA) Professor Robson Onoh commended the first lady of the State for her proactive steps in tackling gender base violence and the lauching of her pet project (BERWO) which focused on improving the health of the State rural women.

Professor Onoh who promised to partner the office of the first lady to end GBV, urged the younger generations to imbibed the norms and values of their forefathers and shun inimical act capable of causing any form of violence while charging parents to always give their children proper home training from the infant stage to enable them become responsible children when they grow up.

The Speaker of Ebonyi House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa and commissioner for women affairs Hon. Felicia Nwamkpuma among others appreciated the Governor’s wife for her giant efforts in over seeing the welfare of women in the State, describing her leadership prowess as second to none since the creation of the State.
