…Charges Govt on Effective Distribution of Equipment
Small and Medium-sized entrepreneurs who are victims of perennial flooding in Kogi State can heave a sigh of relief as the Nigerian Maritime Administration, and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has presented empowerment machinery to ameliorate their plights.
Representatives of the Agency, led by Mr. Owonubi Olajide, on the directives of the NIMASA Director-General, presented the machinery to the Kogi State Government on Thursday and were duly received by the State Deputy Governor, Chief Dr. Edward David Onoja.
Mr. Owonubi Olajide, in conveying the greetings of his boss, the Director General, espoused that the gesture was in fulfillment of the Agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitments to the enthronement of global best practices in the provision of maritime services in Nigeria, said it enforces its Corporate Social Responsibility function, capturing the Confluence State.
He lauded Governor Yahaya Bello for his genuine efforts aimed at to cushioning the burdens of victims of floods through various support and rehabilitation programs.
Responding, the Deputy Governor who had earlier played host to the delegates in his Office in Lokoja, the State capital, described the intervention as both timely and commendable. He emphasized that such lofty gesture designed to meet the yearnings of Small and Medium-sized entrepreneurs affected by the floods complements other gestures undertaken by other corporate outfits.
“On behalf of the Government and People of Kogi State, we deeply appreciate NIMASA for adding their voice to ameliorating the plights of flood victims in our dear State,” he said.
He stated that the items, ranging from tricycles, motorcycles, watering pumps, grinding, and sewing machines, amongst others, would proffer a new lease of life for the entrepreneurs handicapped by incessant flooding, whilst assuring the Agency that adequate monitoring policies to ensure proper distribution would be prioritized to meet the identified beneficiaries.
In his vote of thanks, Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr. Obari Sunday, praised NIMASA for the noble gesture and sought for increased rapport between the Agency and Government in the bid to ameliorating the plights of victims of perennial flooding in the State.
