Cross River First Lady, Eyoanwan-Itam Otu, commissions solar project, distributes empowerment items
Wife of Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Her Excellency, Bishop (Dr) Eyoanwan-Itam Bassey Otu, Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, has in line with the season of sweetness in the state commissioned a solar panel project at the Basic Comprehensive Health Centre, Adiabo Efut Ward, in Odukpani Local Government Area (LGA) beginning the year 2026 on a high note.
According to a report on the Facebook page of Office of the wife of the Cross River State Governor, the solar installation, aimed at improving healthcare delivery and ensuring uninterrupted power supply at the facility, underscores Her Excellency’s continued commitment to strengthening grassroots health systems and promoting sustainable energy solutions, particularly in rural communities.
The report indicated that following the commissioning, Her Excellency proceeded to the Iboku Bloc of Odukpani LGA, comprising Creek Town 1, Creek Town 2, and Ikoneto Wards, where she empowered hundreds of constituents across various fields of endeavour.
It disclosed that “The empowerment outreach featured the distribution of 20 motorcycles, 15 hair drying machines, 20 home solar-powered panels, 10 barbing machines, 10 grinding machines, 10 boats for riverine communities, a shoe-making machine with accessories, and cash grants of ₦200,000 each to 20 women as support for small-scale businesses.
“In addition, over 3,000 bags of rice, wrappers, and other essential items were distributed to beneficiaries, bringing relief and renewed hope to families across the wards.”
Speaking at the event, which had dignitaries from the state and beyond in attendance, Her Excellency, Bishop Eyoanwan-Itam Otu, seen as an icon of humanity and a preacher of love and peace, described the initiative as her “little way of welcoming the people into the new year,” while encouraging beneficiaries “to remain resilient, productive, and relevant in their chosen businesses and trades.”
The intervention was met with widespread appreciation from community leaders and beneficiaries, who lauded Her Excellency for her compassion, inclusiveness, and unwavering commitment to improving livelihoods and community well-being across Cross River State.
