Crisis Rocks Egor LGC As Councillors Reaffirms Removal Of Eghe Ogbemudia As Chairman

Members Of the Egor local government Councillors has reaffirmed the impeachment of Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia as Chairman of the Council.

Briefing newsmen in Benin City, Edo State capital, the six councillors namely, Hon. Preston Eghe Amayo – Deputy Leader, Ward 5, Hon. Eguakun Kelvin Ighodaro, Majority Leader, Ward 8, Hon. Amasinmwin Odion, Chief Whip, Ward 4, Hon. Stella Ogida, Financial Secretary, National Councillors Forum Edo State chapter and Hon. Nosakhare Izebuwa, Ward 10 unanimously disclosed that this development came after allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, and budget padding.

Speaking on behalf of other councillors, Hon. Edion Uwadia Godwin, representing Ward 3 of the local government council said, “It’s essential to note that Hon. Omosigho, Member of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) and Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy, lacks the power to choose or approve the leadership of the Egor Legislative Arm. His press statement in this regard is null and void.”

While urging the relevant authorities to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the impeachment and ensure that the rule of law is upheld, Hon. Uwadia said the people of Egor Local Government Area deserve transparency, accountability, and good governance and demanded for a thorough investigation into the allegations levelled against Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia.

Going further, Hon. Uwadia added “Hon. Bose Omokaro Cynthia who was impeached since June 25, 2024 lacks the authority to convene any Legislative session henceforth.

“The suspension of Honourable Councilors from Ward 02, Ward 03, Ward 05 and Ward 8 is hereby null and void. The recognised Leader of Egor Legislative Arm is Hon. Amb. Dr. Lion Prince Godwin Uwadia Edigin. Any action outside this legitimate framework is unconstitutional and void.

“We want to use this medium to appreciate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the state, the Party chairman, members of the State Caretaker Committee, Leaders of the party, State, Senatorial and Egor Local Government Area for their times taken to ensure peace and harmony abide in Egor Local Government Council.

“But the council chairman Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia vehemently refuses several occasions to listen to the voice of reasoning and understand the true essence of coexistence.

“Please disregard the unholy information going about that Chief Odion Olaye JP. and Hon. Collins Ukponmwan is behind us, is a blank lie to discredit their integrity as we the Councillors are carrying out their Legislative functions as enshrined in the constitution without fear or favour.

“The six councillors will not be distracted from doing their Legislative business diligently. Anybody hiding in any guise to undermine the integrity of the Legislative Arm will be strongly resisted 1n its entirety.

“We call on all stakeholders to join us in demanding good governance and accountability in Egor Local Government Area.”
