governmental organization, Challenged Parenthood Initiative, (CPI) has charged government at all levels to come up with workable policies that will reduce out of School Children and protect the Girl Child in Nigeria.
The Executive Director of CPI, Ms Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, gave the charge on Thursday, at the Kogi State Pre summit on State of the Nigerian Girls Summit (SONGS) which was organized by her organization in collaboration with Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development with support from Actionaid Nigeria.
She reiterated her organization commitment towards ensuring that, all the girl child have sense of belonging in Nigeria.
Agbogun noted that, the organization is conducting a research project to examine the various issues that affects girls in Nigeria in order to produce an evidence based recommendation, for protection of girl during the upcoming Girl summit in Abuja.
Explaining to the participants on the rationale behind the summit, Agbogun said’ You were selected as a participants because you are being considered as the major stakeholders of this activity. Which positions you to have the required knowledge around the issues. You have been identified to participate in this discussion to enhance the information required for further advocacy for the Girl Child”.
The CPI Executive Director, however, thanked the Ministry of Women Affairs for collaborating with the organization in providing life to the girl Child in Kogi State
In her remarks, the Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Hajia Fatima Kabir Buba said the present administration remains committed towards protecting the Girl Child in the state.
According to her, the present administration under Governor Yahaya Bello has continued to institute policies and programmes which has helped ameliorate the suffering of the people and encourage the girl child to go back to school.
Represented by the Ministry Permanent Secretary Adegbola Teddy, the Commissioner appreciated CPI and Actionaid Nigeria for supporting the government in giving life those who have given up due to the challenges they are facing in the world.
The Commissioner assured that, whatever information provided by the participants will be treated in confidentiality.
On her part, the Director Girl Child, Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Folashade Olaniyan, while admitting that, the summit will no doubt bring smiles to the Girl child in Kogi State and Nigeria in general said all hands must be on deck to ensure that, out of school Children is reduced in the society.
The State of the Nigerian Girls Summit, (SONGS) which is slated for 11th October, 2022 in Abuja is expected to discuss the situation of the Nigeria Girl and come up with recommendations and responses to identified issues.
The Guide for selection in the summit are Girls in upper Primary School, Girls in Junior Secondary School, Girls in Senior Secondary School, Girls living with disabilities, Out of School/Working Girls and Children Parliament.
