Complete All Ongoing Projects Within 3 Months or Risk Sanctions, Nwifuru Tells Commissioners, Others

Ebonyi State Governor Chief Francis Nwifuru has directed Commissioners in charge of Works, Environment, Infrastructure, Commerce and Industry, Water Resources, Housing, Special Duties ministries and other contractors to complete all the ongoing projects within three months or face serious sanctions.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebe, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the enlarged EXCO meeting in Abakaliki.
According to the commissioner, the governor’s directive is aimed at accelerating development delivery and ensuring value for public funds, stressing that delays would no longer be tolerated under the current administration.
Omebe added that the EXCO meeting also featured the swearing-in of newly appointed officials, including members of the State Civil Service Commission, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Ebere Ania, and the Secretary of the Rural Electrification Board, Mrs Nnenna Egbo.
He said that Governor Nwifuru charged the new appointees to discharge their duties with diligence, professionalism and commitment in support of the administration’s development agenda.
The commissioner revealed that the governor specifically directed the chairman, secretary and members of the Rural Electrification Board to immediately commence the extension of electricity to rural communities across the state.
Omebe explained that the rural electrification drive is meant to curb rural–urban migration, stimulate grassroots economic activities and improve the living standards of people in the remote areas.
On civil service reforms, he said the governor urged the newly inaugurated members of the State Civil Service Commission to work closely with the commission’s leadership to reposition the service for efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery.
In the education sector, Omebe disclosed that EXCO received an update on the state’s foreign scholarship programme, noting that 104 beneficiaries from the first batch had successfully completed their master’s degree programmes and had proceeded to PhD studies under the state’s fully funded scheme.
He further revealed that the council constituted a three-man committee to review a proposed bill seeking to prohibit the sale and purchase of metal and electrical scraps in the state, following extensive deliberations.
According to him, the committee was mandated to fine-tune the bill and submit its report at the next EXCO meeting.
The commissioner added that Governor Nwifuru commended members of the press for their cooperation and expressed optimism that 2026 would usher in accelerated development and improved welfare for the people of Ebonyi State
