Clergyman Tasks Journalists On Unbiased Reportage As Kogi NUJ Hold Church Service to Mark Press Week.


 

The Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Sunday held an interdenominational church Service as part of activities marking the 2022 NUJ Press Week, with a call on journalists in the State to be unbiased in there reportage.

 

 

The interdenominational church service was held at the Living Faith Church, Lokongoma Lokoja, had working Journalists in attendance, asked to seek divine wisdom alongside professionalism in effective reportage.

In his messages titled “Unveiling the reality of wisdom from above, the presiding Minister, Pastor David Popoola charged worshippers and members of the Press to acquire wisdom in their dealings.

Popoola said “Wisdom from above is the type that makes a man rise above tribulations and storms of life” He added that Earthly wisdom is received as a product of human being adding that the wisdom of God is accessible and available to everyone.

The clergyman identified meekness, focus, seeking guidance and covenant practices as a way of getting access to wisdom from above.

Pastor David Popoola Charged Journalists to improve on the society by reporting the ills in the society, tasked them on professionalism, prayed God to protect and release the spirit of wisdom on Media professionals, particularly as they report issues relating to the 2023 general election.

Speaking at the occasion, Comr. Teddy Adegbola, Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Information and Communication, described the relationship between the State Government and members of the NUJ as cordial, assured that efforts is ongoing to create the enabling environment for working Journalists in the State to practice unhindered.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kogi State Council, Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh appealed to Kogi State Government and other employers of journalists to improve on the welfare of working journalists in the State.

Represented by the Council’s Treasurer, Adebayo Aka, the Chairman appealed to the government to let the weigh – in allowance that is being muted to see the light of the day. He said the welfare of journalists in the state is nothing to write home about when compared with those working with the Federal Government or in other states.

In His address, The Secretary of the planning committee and Publisher of Nigerian Post Newspaper, Comr. Mike Abu said “We are in the church to thank God for the last year and trusting him to guide and protect us as we enter a period of electioneering when members of the union would be in the forefront covering elections. I charged the members to as they hope on God, ensure a fair and balanced reporting that would be professional towards ensuring a credible 2023 general election”
