A two day training for Management, Staff and appointees of the Kogi State Government with disabilities have begun in Lokoja.

The training is facilitated by Christian Council of Nigeria, a local partner to Christian Aid of Nigeria at the request of Kogi State Office For Disability Affairs, is aimed at building the capacity of the concerned persons with a view to addressing gender inequality, social inclusion.

The capacity building would enable the participants understand the right terminology that is in use relating to issues with the disability Community.

In his remarks, the Program Coordinator, Christian Aid of Nigeria, Obele Oluchukwu says issues of gender and Social Inclusion has become an issue with high awareness.
The Project Coordinator disclosed that the training which is at the behest of KOSODA is geared towards supporting KOSODA in building capacity of the participants around gender inequality and social inclusion as well as support vulnerable groups in the State.
While pointing out that having identified gaps in carrying out it objectives, observed that the training will help KOSODA to take action, how to approach government on areas of needs and intervention, as well as to engage political actors on issues of gender awareness.
While pointing out that the need to begin mainstreaming gender issues and to ensure that gender inclusiveness is carried out in the State cannot be overemphasized, expressed worry over early marriages, girl child inclusion, will assist in addressing issues concerning gender inequality.
In his remarks, Rev. Canon Mathew Fanto, Program Manager, Christian Council of Nigeria, disclosed that the Christian Council of Nigeria is constantly seeking ways to reach out to vulnerable groups in the nineteen Northern States of the country.
He pointed out that the Christian Council of Nigeria is supporting vulnerable groups recover from the impact of natural disasters affected like flood affected by persons with disabilities.
The outcome of the training he disclosed is to better inform the participants about issues of violence, gender inequality and social inequalities.
In his speech, the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office of the Disability Affairs, described the training as timely, pointing out that the agency remains a baby that needs to build the capacity of members with the view to better understand social inclusion, gender and how to carry out it activities.
Barr. Dare praised Gov Yahaya Bello for in no small measure given serious attention to the disability Community through KOSODA, lauded his efforts on issues of gender and Social Inclusion in governance.
In a presentation, the lead facilitator, Prof. Hauwau Evelyn Yusuf, said as drivers of issues affecting the disability Community, participants need to be better informed about the terms and mode of operation.
