The President of the federal republic of Nigeria appointed Barr Uju Kennedy as the Minister of Women Affairs to oversee the ministry and bring in her vast experience to the success of the Ministry.
The ministry of women affairs as founded in 1989 is a part of the federal ministries of Nigeria that promotes the development of Women,promoting the general welfare of women, providing technical support to women non-governmental organization, promoting literacy and health programmes for women as well as coordinating Awareness programmes to promote civic, political,social and economic participation of women.
Despite inclusive reforms and policies,Nigeria has a long road to Gender inequality,Poverty and political disenfranchisement prevalent in women.
After statistics and survey taken ,we have been able to identify problems prevalent in women gender which are;
-Economic Inequality
-Poverty
-Physical and Sexual Violence
-Unemployment and under-employment
-Political Exclusion and education parity.
On a general note,these gender based issues prevalent with the women calls for the development of a comprehensive framework for women protection which Barr Uju Kennedy will hit the ground running on assumption of office come August 21st 2023.
Barr Uju Keneddy who promise to work closely with the First lady H.E Oluremi Tinubu who launched a programme recently called Renewed Hope initiative(RHI).This program was solely launched with the main aim of empowering Women, Youths and Children in the country.Furthermore,the program will target Vulnerable groups in the country and bring them closer to the government
Barr Uju Kennedy whos has been a beacon of hope for the less fortunate and disabled individuals in Nigeria society.she provided start up capitals for so many women to start small and medium scale business. She also made available centers for training and skill acquisition programmes which was to a large extent was able to pull a large group of women out of poverty. She has received several awards both National and international for her women gender initiatives and humanitarian gestures has showed that no doubt she posses the prerequisites to deliver on her mandate as the Minister of Women Affairs.
