Bursar Kogi State COE Ankpa Enrolls 50 Underprivileged Labourers into Kogi Health Insurance Scheme.
The Bursar of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Mr. Lawal Itopa Lamidi, has announced his intention to enroll 50 underprivileged casual laborers into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme.
Mr. Lamidi emphasized that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, which motivated his decision to include the vulnerable group.
According to Mr. Lamidi, the 50 beneficiaries of the first phase will be drawn from underprivileged laborers working under the Ganaja flyover bridge.
He disclosed this while presenting a letter of interest to Dr. Adekunle Aledare, Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency.
He added that the gesture reflects his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the wellbeing of vulnerable populations and advance the development of the state.
He noted that the objectives of the sponsorship is to provide health insurance coverage to underprivileged casual labourers to be enrolled into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme.
According to Lawal, the initiative is for,
“Casual labourers who are unable to afford the premium payments. This initiative aims to improve their access to quality healthcare, reduce the financial burden of medical expenses and promote their overall well-being”.
“I’m proposing to sponsor fifty (50) underprivileged casual labourers to be enrolled into the State
Health Insurance Scheme in the first phase after which another 50 persons who are Okada riders in Ajaokuta LGA would be enrolled”.
” I am willing to cover the premium payments for a period of one year and the likelihood of a renewal”.
“The beneficiaries of this sponsorship will be underprivileged casual labourers stationed under the Ganaja Bridge who are residents of Kogi State. They will be identified and selected in collaboration with the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme”.
“I am willing to make a lump sum payment to cover the premium payments for the beneficiaries”, requested a detailed breakdown of the costs and the payment instructions from the KSHIA”.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Kogi State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Adekunle Aledare, described the gesture to sponsor underprivileged casual labourers into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme as unprecedented and first of it kind, urged other well meaning individuals in the State to emulate the efforts of Mr. Lawal Itopa Lamidi.
He added that the vision of the KSHIA is to provide equitable access to quality and affordable healthcare services to all residents of Kogi State to ensure Universal Health Coverage.
He disclosed that the KSHIA has a mission to provide efficient and sustainable mechanism for mobilizing and pooling financial resources for strategic purchasing of Healthcare services and to confer optimal financial risk protection to all residents of Kogi State.
The Executive Secretary, was represented at the visit by Mr. Salihu Zekeri, assured of the cooperation and support to Mr. Lawal to enable the underprivileged casual labourers enjoy access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
