A former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republic Convention (NRC in the annulled 1993 presidential election and elder-statesman, Bashir Tofa is dead.
The politician was rumored to have died five days ago, but the was refuted by a family friend who said he was still alive, but critically ill.
However, his son, Habibu, who broke the news on Monday, said his father died in the early hours of Monday morning.
Tofa contested alongside his opponent, Social Democratic Party, SDP Presidential candidate, late Chief Mashood Abiola in the election which was annulled by the former Nigeria Military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida.
