It is no longer an exaggeration or a mere boast that the PDP and other opposition parties have been completely dismantled in Dekina Local Government Area.
This achievement is credited to the political wisdom and strategic leadership of the State Auditor General, Alhaji YY Okala — a refined technocrat turned political visionary in Kogi East.
What once appeared as a minor political move has evolved into a remarkable transformation.
The grand decamping ceremony held on October 26, 2025, in Odu I, Dekina LGA, witnessed the defection of prominent figures such as Prof. Aliyu Idris, Emmanuel Omebeji, and Alhaji Khalid, the PDP leader in the area.
Even the political heavyweight Capt. Idris Wada, former Governor of Kogi State — known for his humility, precision in leadership, and reverence for God — could not withstand the wave.
The situation has become so evident that even the blind can feel that the PDP has given way to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s largest local government.
Progressivism thrives on development — a fact that defines the renewed spirit of the people of Dekina LGA under the sincere and humble leadership of Alhaji YY Okala.
Alongside the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Okute, members of the House of Assembly, and several others, he has introduced a new political narrative in Kogi East.
Having witnessed over 3,000 people decamp in one sitting, I could not help but reflect on the cause of this political tsunami sweeping through Dekina and Kogi East at large.
The answer lies in the character and leadership qualities of Alhaji YY Okala — a man guided by transparency, humility, and the fear of God. His leadership, founded on courage, competence, and commitment, complemented by the steadfastness of the Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Ogwu Alhassan, has redefined Kogi East’s political landscape.
To sustain this momentum, the APC must refocus on grassroots development, especially by opening rural roads as a pathway to rural transformation and holistic growth.
The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, should be communicated effectively to our rural dwellers, emphasizing the President’s strategic efforts in securing a brighter future for all.
The era of lamentation is over — there is indeed hope at the end of the tunnel.
I pray for continued strength and patriotic zeal for our Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, a true servant leader who continues to exemplify leadership worthy of emulation. If we all sustain this focus in our various spheres of responsibility, posterity will remember us kindly.
