Akpabio’s Shifty Politics Won’t Save Him — Action Collective Blasts Senate President Over Natasha’s Suspension
The Action Collective has come down hard on the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, describing his recent justification for the unlawful suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as desperate, misleading, and an insult to the Nigerian judiciary. In a fiery statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mr. Teddy Onyejuwe, the group warned that no amount of media spin or political stagecraft would erase the illegality surrounding the senator’s suspension.
Reacting to Akpabio’s latest remarks through his media aide, Kenny Okolugbo, that Senator Natasha’s refusal to apologise was the reason her suspension had not been lifted, Action Collective described the comments as “irresponsible, diversionary, and constitutionally hollow.” The group stated categorically that Kenny Okolugbo is not a member of the Nigerian Senate and therefore lacks the legitimacy to speak on behalf of a constitutionally recognised arm of government.
“Akpabio cannot outsource the leadership of the Senate to a media consultant and then hide behind him to spew lies. This shenanigan will not save him. Nigerians are not fools,” Onyejuwe stated. He emphasised that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recourse to the Federal High Court was a legitimate demand for constitutional interpretation and redress—not a publicity stunt as the Senate President has falsely portrayed.
The Action Collective recalled that the Federal High Court had nullified the suspension of Senator Natasha, affirming her right to resume legislative duties. The group noted that the refusal of the Senate leadership to obey that court order is a clear affront to judicial authority and democratic principles. “There was no ambiguity in the court’s pronouncement. The Senate is bound by law, not ego,” the group insisted.
Calling on Nigerians to resist what it called “the creeping tyranny of impunity under Akpabio’s watch,” Action Collective warned that history would not be kind to those who silence female voices and trample on the rule of law. The group reaffirmed its support for Senator Natasha and vowed to stand by every Nigerian leader who insists on justice, equity, and constitutional order.
