Calls for Equitable Distribution of Power in Ihima
We call for a fair distribution of power in Okehi LGA, Kogi State. Okehi LGA is one of the five local governments in Kogi Central, which includes Ihima and Eika as constituents.
These two communities had a gentleman’s agreement to rotate the position of Executive Chairman between them. To ensure equality distribution of power within Ihima, another agreement was made to rotate power among the six notable clans in Ihima.
This arrangement has been respected by both Ihima and Eika facilitating a smooth power rotation. However, this same fairness has not been observed among the six notable clans within Ihima. Historically, three of these clans- Emani, Oha, and Ohueta have not had the chance to hold the position of Executive Chairman of Okehi LGA.
Currently, in Ihima, Emani holds the senatorial seat for Kogi Central, and Ohueta has the State House of Assembly position while the Oha Clan has no political representation.
Peace is crucial for societal development, and Ihima has enjoyed political harmony. To maintain this peace, we call for an equitable distribution of power among the clans in Ihima. Ihima has established an order that they believe in and wish to maintain indefinitely.
We urge community leaders and political stakeholders to review the power distribution in Ihima and take necessary actions to prevent any potential discord that could disrupt the current peace.
Therefore, there is need for the leaders at every level within Ihima and okehi at large to come together and decide on the Chairmanship position of Okehi for forth coming election’s.
