Unemployment, perception of injustice and marginalization has been identified as some major drivers of violent extremism.
Anicetus Atakpu, Resilience Programme and Consortium Coordinator, ActionAid Nigeria, made the disclosure at the ongoing two day Media Masterclass on Preventing Violent Extremism in Kano and Kaduna States with the theme: Creating Enabling Environment and Shaping Peace Through Conflict Sensitive Reportage.
The Masterclass is organized by ActionAid with funding by Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), holden at Goshen Hotel Keffi, Nasarawa State media practitioners, equally added that human rights violations, widespread political exclusion as well as failure of States to failure to provide basic rights services and security can be traced to causes of violent extremism.
Mr. Anicetus advocated the use of less militarised methods in preventing, countering violent extremism, described PCVE as a child of necessity, said the policy framework and National Action plan of PVCE came into effect in 2017 with a presidential directive.
He urged Journalists to institutionalize and integrate strategic communications in PCVE, advocated government and society approach as the wholistic approach in preventing violent extremism.
