The Composition of the Kogi State Youth Development
Commission has been described as one with mixed feelings by Actionaid.
While Actionaid expressed joy with the composition of the Commission, it however pointed out that 80% of the members have no idea of the struggle for the Movement and content of what the Youth Development Commission stands for.
Mr. Anicetus Atakpu, Resillience Programme Coordinator with ActionAid, Team Lead of the SARVE 11 Project for ActionAid made the disclosure while reacting to the composition of the Commission, explained that wide consultation ought to have been done before the composition.
He said having people with little knowledge about the what the Commission represents may amount to having square pegs in round holes, thus having a faulty foundation.
He said if consultation had been widely done, people like Aminu Okutepa, Initiator of the Kogi Youth Development Agency Bill which later metermorphosed into the Kogi Youth Development Commission, other members of the Youths Advisory Cluster, among several others who were behind the bill and its passage, would have helped strengthen the composition of the members of the Commission, expressed fears that it would be difficult achieving results if people who do not know where the Commission bill started from are tasked with the implementation.
Mr. Anicetus however congratulated Kogi State for scoring yet another first as the state to have passed, assented and composed a Youth Development Commission in the Country.
He equally congratulated the members of the Commission, urged them to see to the full operationalization of the Commission bill.
Similarly, Halima Oiza Sadiq, Executive Director of Participation Initiative for Behavioural Change in Development, (PIBCID), expressed joy with the passage and assent to the Youth Development Commission bill, explained that her concern is not about the Composition but with the full implementation and operationalization of the law.
